If your club is already offering pétanque as an activity but isn’t yet ready to take the next step toward becoming a more official entity, you can still receive our support from the regional governing body (PNW). We believe in nurturing the sport by sowing the seeds for future opportunities and raising awareness of pétanque in the community.
Typically, an individual or a group of like-minded people contact us after discovering pétanque and wanting to know how to start defining a space to play. At this stage, it’s very early days, and the concept of joining the national governing body isn't even on their radar or the priority right now. Instead, you may just want to reach out to someone in your local area for help getting started and learning more. That’s where we come in.
PNW can dedicate time, support, and attention to help you take those first steps, offering the guidance you deserve to grow your club with confidence.
The answer is yes! We know that some clubs are happy to just provide casual relaxed social play and do not wish to become involved with the additional complexities of becoming an officially recognised and registered pétanque club. Afterall, You may have members who just want to turn up, play some pétanque, maybe with local rules and wrap up after a few short games. We’d rather you get active and enjoy playing, even just a little bit of pétanque, than not be involved at all.
Still, your club might be looking to attract new members and understand the basics, such as what equipment is needed and how to throw your boules.
You may also need guidance on building pétanque terrains, with questions like: How big should it be? What surface is best? Should games be played one-on-one or in teams?
Additionally, PNW can assist with sourcing the equipment you need, including advice and tips on boules and other essentials, and provide guidance on where to get them.
We offer fun and engaging training sessions designed to help players improve their game, learn the rules, and understand the sporting etiquette required. These sessions can be tailored to meet your needs and goals. Typically, we bring in more experienced players from our network to share their knowledge and insights with you and your teammates.
PNW has the contacts to help generate high-quality content to promote your club, and act as consultants to guide you every step of the way. This could be high-quality photographs of people enjoying the game and camaraderie like you see here. Alternatively, you may need help creating a website, Facebook page or a flyer. What ever you can think of, we will see what we can do to get you where you want to be.
Currently, we actively support Greater Manchester, Cheshire, and parts of Lancashire. That being said, we’re not going to turn our backs on you if you're based further afield, especially in areas without an existing support network. In these edge cases, our goal is to help you grow and develop to a point where you can inspire others around you, creating momentum for new players and clubs to spring up. Over time, you’ll have the confidence and structure to run independently and strengthen your local pétanque community. "The day you no longer need our support should be seen as a success, it means your club is thriving, and perhaps even ready to grow into its own region, helping to fill in the gaps on the map.
If you're interested in becoming a PNW Affiliate Club, or simply want to learn more, get in touch with us. We’ll happily talk through the benefits of the scheme and answer any questions you might have.
