Pétanque North West sparks community spirit with 23rd Stretford Cub Scouts

Youth training, promoting community engagement and developing young players in the sport. It's all part of PNW's strategy.

Community engagement

Thanks to the valuable community connections fostered by Pétanque North West, the enthusiastic members of the 23rd Stretford Cub Scout group are thrilled to utilise the terrains affiliated with Trafford Pétanque. This presents a fantastic opportunity for these young individuals to engage in and embrace this inclusive sport.

The aim is to hold multiple fun and engaging pétanque introductory & training sessions each year for the cubs to embrace. So far this year, two dedicated sessions are planned to take place in April and July 2024.

Collaborative development

This initiative is all part of our on-going commitment to work with the community.

Youth engagement is a big part of PNW’s vision. Collaborating with existing youth groups is essential to future proof the sport and the region.
Chris Kitson - Director of Sport, PNW

The sessions that took place in the previous year were very well received and attended. All stakeholders are hoping for more of the same. We all know that if individuals take up a particular sport at a young age, muscle memory plays a big factor in their ability later on. Youth players such as Loni, 1x Champion of France (See Loni on Youtube) made a wise decision to start playing at such a young age. There’s a higher chance of representing your country if you take up pétanque instead of say football. However, that doesn't mean it's easier, it's just down to statistics.

If you’re a club looking to engage more with your community and perhaps inspire younger players to take up the pétanque, why not do something similar in your area.

Let’s hope as well that even if you're not going to become a future pétanque champion, that these participants have a great and memorable experience.
